also a great narrative and not merely a monolithic kind of democratic participation."

The circumstances and process that pushed Dr. Ambedkar for conversion with approximately five lakh supporters are discussed in this booklet. This was a courageous attempt to get rid of inequalities and exploitation in Hinduism to the outcastes. The Hindus were startled by watching mental revolution of dalits . Manu-smriti imposed a well-planned and chanelised bondage over dalits and trapped them in inhumane region .After studying various religions Ambedkar found that only Buddhism could establish an egalitarian society . His conversion to Buddhism was not politically motivated .He even lost his own previleges as a dalit , by accepting Buddhism .But his solace lied in his liberation from a religion that persuasively coerced people to abysmal poverty and deprivation besides its authoritarian polity. He has experienced that in a democratic social system Dalits will be able to analyze logically their own condition and subsequently search out means to overcome these. Their intellectual insight would be instrumental in crusading against obscurantism, superstition and illiteracy.
