Organization of the Workshop

With a view to eliciting opinions about the establishment of the Centre, the first activity undertaken by it was to organize a Brain Storming-cum-Workshop on ‘Dalit Popular Booklets, Democratic Participation and Dalit Public Sphere: A Project for Research, Documentation, and Advocacy’ on October 3-4, 2005. The workshop was attended by distinguished scholars, social activists, and Dalit writers. Professor Bishnu Mohapatra, Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; Professor A. Satyanarayana, Department of History, University of Osmania, Hyderabad; Professor, S.M. Dahiwale, Department of Sociology, University of Pune; Professor Kamla Prasad, Vice Chairman, Kedriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra; Professor Nandu Ram, Centre for Social System, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; Professor Sushila Singh, Principal, Mahila College, BHU, Varanasi; Professor Brij Raj Chauhan, former Head, Department of Sociology, University of Meerut;Professor Lalit Joshi, Department of History, University of Allahabad, Shri. Shailendra Tiwari, Lecturer, Government Degree College, Saidabad, Allahabad, and Professor R.C. Tripathi, Director, G.B. Pant Social Science Institute, Allahabad and faculty members of the Institute participated actively. Prominent among the Dalit writers attending the workshop were Baudhacharya S. Rao Sajivan Nath, and Guru Prasad Madan, from Allahabad, and Raj Kumar Itihaskar, founder of Paasee Shodh Sansthan, Lucknow. A comprehensive documentation of the two days workshop, and an executive summary prepared on its basis, was sent to the Ford Foundation office, New Delhi.
